Veteran’s Transition to Civilian Life

Submitted by Anna White

Holly first learned about Michigan Works! as a resource available to help veterans transition to civilian life when she was discharged from the Navy. Early last year she visited her local Michigan Works! office for possible training as a truck driver. Working with the career planner on the enrollment process, Holly was determined eligible for multiple funding sources for training. Using braided funding, including the Industry Infinity grant, she had 100% tuition coverage when she selected U. S. Truck Driver Training School.

Following completion of the training, Holly shared, “I’m so thankful for Michigan Works! for the grant that was available to me to attend trucking school. Also, I was able to attend my school of choice and select my program. Lastly and most importantly, I obtained my CDL A license as a woman in the trucking industry!”

Holly was initially employed by Streamline Logistics and is currently with Amazon Logistics.
